14th International Convention on Tourism and Culture YPERIA 2016

yperia2016Less than two weeks are left until the opening of the 14th International Convention on Tourism and Culture YPERIA 2016, which will take place in Aegiali, Amorgos Island (Greece), from October 12th to October 17th 2016.

The Convention is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Amorgos and FedHATTA and is sponsored by the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT) and the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy.

For the 14th consecutive year, journalists, travel professionals, academics and film producers from around the world will meet on the beautiful island of Amorgos, in order to discover its treasures and explore prospects for sustainable touristic development on a local but also a wider level.

YPERIA 2016 aims to promote the natural beauty and culture of Amorgos, to inspire an exchange of ideas on cultural heritage management and to showcase projects that take place on the island.

The main scope of discussion of YPERIA 2016 is: “ECOLOGY AND TRADITION: Prospects for the future and the speeches included in its program are related to the following topics:

  • “Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe. How a trail certification can contribute to the valorization of the cultural heritage and shape islands like Amorgos as a hiking destination” – Liane Jordan (Germany), Quality Management of “Hiker Friendly Germany” and “Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe”
  • “Natural protection and development in areas of Natura 2000 network with reference to tourism” – Christina Kontaxi (Greece), Paths of Greece
  • “Local products: the cultural dimension” – Evangelos Karamanes (Greece), Senior researcher, acting director of the Hellenic Folklore Research Centre (Academy of Athens)
  • “UNESCO’s World Heritage List: an analysis of how to draft an SOUV (Statement of Outstanding Universal Values)” – Margarita Thoma and Alexandros Eleftheriades Tamoglou (Greece), historians, heritage management
  • “Amorgos – Underwater and land-based sculpture park: ecotourism, education and ecology through art” – Ute Kohlmann (Netherlands), director of the open-air film, music and photography festival West’ival
  • “Cinema: A tool of development and tourism promotion” – Antonis Kioukas (Greece), film director, producer and organizer of events
  • “Film tourism in Greece: Development and results” – representative of the Greek Film Centre (Greece)
