British Airways customers travelling through Gatwick will be the first in the UK to experience a new ‘Fast Travel’ service.

The ‘Fast Travel’ initiative, which is part of the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Simplifying the Business Programme, involves introducing automated and self-service capabilities into an airport to simplify and speed up the passenger experience.

British Airways check in kiosks at Gatwick will now be able to print baggage tags as well as check travel documents automatically, allowing customers to flow through the airport more easily than ever before.

In recognition of British Airways investment in new technology at Gatwick, IATA has awarded the airline a ‘Gold’ award. This marks the first time a UK based airline has achieved such an award and is only the second time that such a distinction has been given to any airline in the world.

British Airways’ head of service transformation Glenn Morgan, said: “This award is a great achievement for British Airways at Gatwick and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that the latest technology is at the forefront of our customer experience worldwide.

We are investing in new technology which not only saves our customers time and effort but also makes their journeys more enjoyable. ”
