Czech veterans are bidding for the top rugby event in Europe

Old Boys Prague – Czech Rugby Veterans Association, which is one of the founding members of the organization of European veteran rugby EGOR (European Golden Oldies Rugby), seeks to obtain an organization of the official Festival Egor, which is the biggest event of the European veteran rugby, in 2013.

This top event is held every two years in different country, and in 2013 it will be its 12th anniversary. Apart from Prague, another the two cities from biggest rugby countries are seeking to host the festival, so the position of Prague in the final choice will not be easy.

For this reason, the Executive Committee EGOR sent to the inspection trip to Prague President of EGOR Dave McDonald,  Secretary Matthias Schenke and Member of the Executive Committee Werner Czerny to examine the preparedness of Prague as the candidate city for organizing such an important event.

Veteran of the European festivals contains usually of thirty to forty participating teams representing 1000 and 1500 individual participants and, if Prague will be successful in candidacy, it would be by far the largest rugby event in the Czech Republic.

During the stay of the EGOR delegation,  a series of important meetings were held, during which the candidacy of Prague  explicitly supported the Prague City Hall, the organization for the promotion of tourism CzechTourism,Prague Convention Bureau, Czech Airlines as the official carrier and the Czech Rugby Union and clubs RC Mountfield Ricany and RC Sparta Praha, which would provide the playgrounds during the festival.

Prague Marriott Hotel and Yasmin hotel significantly helped with the stay of the delegation.

Prague Old Boys team celebrates in 2013 twenty five years of its existence, and the festival would thus celebrate this anniversary. The decision on the choice of organizing the 12th EGOR Festival 2013 is expected at the end of February this year.
