PATA Appoints Leong as Chief Operating Officer

July 3, 2012, Bangkok: The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has appointed Ms Sheila Leong as Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective July 3, 2012.

Sheila, a Singaporean national and a PATA staff member since 1998, assumes the role of COO, a newly introduced position, to consolidate all operational activities. All Regional Directors and representatives will report to the COO.

PATA CEO Martin J. Craigs said: “Sheila has massive experience with PATA and is widely respected in the travel industry across Asia Pacific and beyond. Her appointment will enhance the delivery of PATA benefits to members around the globe.”

Sheila joined PATA in April 1998 as Director of Northeast Asia in the Association’s Singapore regional office. In 2000, she assumed the role of Director – Events and relocated to PATA’s Headquarters in Bangkok. Since then she has played a lead role in organising and implementing all PATA events as head of the Events department.

Before joining PATA, Sheila established her travel and tourism event management skills and contacts working with Franco-Asia Travel, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort, and Reed Exhibitions.

At the same time, Mr Stu Lloyd, PATA’s Senior Director – Marketing and Membership Services will leave PATA to explore new oppotunities in the South East Asia region. Mr Lloyd leaves PATA on July 3.

CEO Craigs said: “All of us at PATA wish Stu all the best as he moves on to new ventures.”

The CEO added: “PATA is adjusting quickly to provide value to members. We are focussing on a streamlined range of quality services in line with members’ needs in a fast changing digital age.”
