Bankruptcies of tour operators had the greatest impact on the market in 2012, this opinion was expressed by 23% of ATOR portal’s respondents.

In 2012, tourism market experienced a lot of turmoil. The year began with tragic event – the collapse of the Costa Concordia cruise liner- which led to a loss of confidence to cruising among tourists and, consequently, the company’s attempt to attract tourists with lower prices.

Approximately 3% of respondents think that this collapse was the most significant event for the industry in the past year. By the way, the same number of survey participants believes that the most significant event was the changing of tourism industry’s subordination from Russia’s Tourism and Sports Ministry to the Ministry of Culture.

Only 1% and 2% of respondents respectively consider hurricane in the United States and the war in Syria the most important for the industry in the last year.

Only 5% of respondents consider a creation of the new structure “All-Russian Association of Tour Operators in the sphere of outbound tourism” (Rosturpomoshch) the main event of 2012. A little more, 6% of travel industry representatives mentioned a related event – an increase of financial guarantees for large operators.

Flooding in the Krasnodar region and counter-terrorist operation in Israel 7% of respondents named the most significant events in the last year. Disturbances in Egypt, began in 2011, continue to influence the Russian tourist market. This opinion was expressed by 13% of respondents ( the third place).

We faced the large number of bankruptcies in the market during the last year. 6% and 7% of respondents respectively consider bankruptcy of airlines (Malev, Kuban and Wind Jet ) and bankruptcy of travel agencies serious events that had a significant impact on the industry.

Bankruptcy of Lanta-Tour Voyage was the second most important event of 2012, according to respondents.
