The Italian Meetings Industry Bounces back: A new official agreement for both coordination and development signed between major institutional players

Just six months after the dissolution of the National Convention Bureau, a new organism to both represent and develop the Italian meetings & events industry has been signed in L’Aquila (Abruzzo), by the President of Federcongressi&eventi Mr. Mario Buscema, the Regional Minister for Tourism of Tuscany (leading the interregional alliance Mice in Italia) Ms. Cristina Scaletti, the Coordinator of the Italian Regional Ministers for Tourism (and Regional Minister for Tourism of Abruzzo as well) Mr. Mauro Di Dalmazio and the President of the National Tourism Board (ENIT) Mr. Pier Luigi Celli.

Among the attendees also Federcongressi&eventi’s Deputy President Ms. Carlotta Ferrari, representing the members belonging to the category Destination marketing and venues.

Goals and objectives

In force of this agreement, lasting three years and renewable, the Regions involved in the project Mice in Italia (Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Puglia, Valle d’Aosta, Veneto, Campania, Sicily, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the Autonomous Province of Trento), as well as other Regions represented by the Coordination, the National Tourist Board and Federcongressi&eventi, will undertake synergistic initiatives to efficiently and effectively promote and develop the Italian meetings & events industry. In particular, they intend to optimize and qualify joint work to harmonize the promotion and marketing, to present the Mice offer at its best, and to define a coordinated program of activities.

The Protocol commits the Parties to recognize in a Coordination Committee the point of reference for the definition of strategies, joint actions and monitoring in many crucial matters, such as the studies and industry researches, the education, the trade promotion initiatives and the coordinated presence alongside the main international exhibitions.

The composition of the Coordination Committee

The Coordination Committee, chaired by the National Board and based within its offices, consists of:

–                       one representative of the Board itself;

–                       six representatives appointed by the Regions and Autonomous Provinces, including a representative of  the Region leading the interregional alliance Mice in Italia (Tuscany) and a representative of the Coordination of the Italian Regional Ministers for Tourism (Abruzzo);

–                       four representatives appointed by Federcongressi&eventi;

–                       three representatives appointed by the main Italian trade associations (Confindustria, Confcommercio and Confesercenti).
