Germany stand with 65 exhibitors

Frankfurt, November 12, 2013. The German Convention Bureau (GCB), along with 65 stand partners, is set to showcase the country’s areas of expertise to the many visitors expected at EIBTM which takes place 19 to 21 November 2013 in Barcelona. More than 15,000 trade visitors are expected at the show, including decision makers in the meetings, incentives, conventions and events, travel managers and organisers of conferences and congresses.

The German stand (number D40 and D10) is the biggest at the show and will have 65 exhibitors representing the broad spectrum of the country’s offering: from convention centres and event venues at city convention bureaus, hotels and hotel chains to professional meeting organisers and event agencies. The GCB has its own space on the stand (number D40 – 2) which serves as a first point of contact for information about Germany as a meeting destination. It is also holding joint press appointments with the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) during the show. Lufthansa, the largest airline in Europe, will also be at EIBTM on stand number K12.

Focus on Germany’s industry expertise

Germany’s key areas of expertise, which include medicine and healthcare, transport and logistics and technology and innovation, will be showcased on the stand.

Matthias Schultze, Managing Director of the GCB German Convention Bureau, explains: “In addition to an outstanding infrastructure, a wide variety of venues and a very competitive price/performance ratio, Germany’s expertise in key industries is a central factor in the country’s high ranking as a meeting and convention destination.”

These areas of skill enable international meeting planners to maximise the impact and effectiveness of their meetings and conventions by sourcing local relevant speakers or organising site visits.

Germany’s increasing importance on the international stage is part of the focus of its presence at EIBTM. From 2006 to 2012, the number of international participants at conferences and events in Germany has increased from 14.3 to 22.1 million, according to the annual Meeting- & Event Barometer. The future study “Meeting and convention of the future”, also commissioned by the GCB, predicts this trend will continue for the next few years: In 2020, some 80 million overnight stays from abroad are expected in Germany, 20 million more than in 2010 (Source: GNTB forecast).
