Kate Adie to speak at First World War legacy conference at UniSpace SunderlandUniSpace Sunderland, the conference and events arm of the University of Sunderland, will this week host an international conference exploring the legacy of the First World War, featuring Oscar-winning film producer and actor David Parfitt who will be screening his film ‘The Wipers Times’ and former BBC Chief News Reporter Kate Adie who will be discussing her book ‘The Great War: Fighting on the Home Front’.

The three-day conference will take place in UniSpace’s Prospect Building between Friday 4th and Sunday 6th April, bringing together artists, academics, teachers, students and journalists from across the world to look at the impact the Great War had on the history, culture, philosophy, language and the politics of the last 100 years.

Sharon Olver, Business Development Manager and Commercial Manager at UniSpace Sunderland, comments: “This is set to be a very interesting conference. It’s a great example of the commercial and academic sides of our business supporting one another by hosting events that support the core activities of the university. It’s also exciting to see Kate Adie and David Parfitt returning to their home city for what I’m sure will be some very interesting discussions.”

The event coincides with the 100 year anniversary of the First World War and is one of many national events taking place throughout the year. Dr Kath Kerr-Koch, Senior Lecturer in Literary History at the University of Sunderland and organiser of the Conference, adds: “This is an exciting and ground breaking conference which brings together artists, academics, teachers, students and journalists, all marking different historical, cultural, aesthetic and philosophical legacies which have evolved out of the First World War. It is one not to miss.”
