A Vote of Business ConfidenceHome to Australia’s finance sector, Sydney is set to receive 6,000 Sibos delegates in 2018 following the recent announcement that ICC Sydney would host the event in the venue’s second year of operation.

Sydney is a fitting location for Sibos 2018, the most prestigious financial services event in the world, and marks the 14th international event to be secured by Business Events Sydney for ICC Sydney.

Sven Bossu, Head of Sibos at SWIFT said the redevelopment of ICC Sydney paired with a highly coordinated city bid involving the government, the business events bureau, the financial industry, the venue operator and the local community resulted in the win for Sydney.

“Besides its iconic and breath-taking Opera House, Sydney is known for being a major financial and economic hub, not just for Australia, but for the whole Asia-Pacific region.

“The warmth of the people, the confidence we have in the venue’s functionality and world class operator AEG Ogden plus the concentrated levels of banking headquarters and multinational companies led to our 2018 decision for ICC Sydney,” Mr Bossu said.

Alain Raes, Chief Executive SWIFT APAC and EMEA added: “Sydney is not only a great physical location for Sibos, it’s an apt symbol of the innovative, dynamic and collaborative SWIFT community. SWIFT has been in Australia for over 30 years, and its leadership in driving our industry forward to embrace new technologies and new business opportunities is important not just for the Asia-Pacific, but for our global community.”

Sydney provides a quarter of the national GDP, and is home to the headquarters of more than 90 banks, the regional headquarters of over 500 multinational companies, as well as the majority of Australia’s foreign subsidiary banks.

It is also home to the Australian Securities Exchange and the Reserve Bank of Australia.
