The new $180 million-dollar Frank Gehry-designed Business School building at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) is about to open, promising to redesign the way Australia’s business leaders of the future think and work.
It will also be an inspiring place for the world’s change-makers to meet, discuss and solve.
According to UTS Business School Dean, Professor Roy Green, the Dr Chau Chak Wing building marks a return by universities to their historic role as promoters of inspiring architecture, where ‘new building styles and genuinely innovative buildings which lifted the spirits were characteristic’.
“If you don’t have a physical environment that lifts your spirits, it’s unlikely you are going to be as creative and stimulated as you might be,” said Professor Green.
The university aims to tap into the business events market by using the new building as a venue. It says it could attract up to 24,000 interstate and 2,000 international business visitors annually.
Business Events Sydney CEO Lyn Lewis-Smith hailed the building as characteristic of Sydney’s progressive mindset.
“In Sydney, we think differently. Convention has its place, but it’s not here in Sydney. As Albert Einstein once famously said, ‘We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them’.
