The World Travel Awards (WTA) was established in 1993 to seek out and reward the very best travel organizations in the world. It has now developed into the most prestigious and comprehensive awards program in travel and tourism and is recognized worldwide as the hallmark of industry excellence. WTA’s mission is to drive up standards within the industry and to ensure that brands exceed expectations. The organization is impartial and independent.

The winners were chosen according to the following seven criteria: customer satisfaction and quality of service, overall business performance, product innovation, staff relations and development, corporate social responsibility and contribution to the local community, commitment to sustainable policies, and fulfilment of long-term corporate vision. Votes are cast by professionals working in the travel and tourism industries, senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators and travel agents. Since 2009, voting has also been open to the public to reflect the growing role that the awards play in influencing how people make their travel purchasing decisions. The voting works on a first-past-the-post system, and votes are submitted on the World Travel Awards website.
