The largest European congress on organ transplantation, ESOT, is going to attract 3,500 doctors, scientists and experts to Copenhagen and the Bella Center in 2019.

Twelve cities made an offer of hosting the annual European Society for Organ Transplantation congress ESOT 2019, including cities such as Amsterdam, Gothenburg and Milan but in the end, Copenhagen won.

Among other factors, Copenhagen was chosen because of Denmark’s strong position on organ transplantations and because of the fact that the city is easy to access from around the world and offers high quality of life and a safe setting.

Copenhagen is a popular destination for life science congresses but it is the first time that the Danish capital is playing host to ESOT. Allan Rasmussen, Chief Consultant at the Copenhagen University Hospital ‘Rigshospitalet’ and newly appointed congress president of ESOT 2019:

‘’ESOT is one of the key-congresses within organ transplantation and the largest, of its kind in Europe. It is a clear acknowledgement of the international status of Denmark within the field, that a congress of this calibre is held here.’’

What makes Copenhagen an attractive host city?
Copenhagen is ranked one of the most popular congress cities in the world, and is easy and safe to reach and navigate in. Copenhagen is a knowledge hub where some of the strong points are within the life science, IT and clean tech industries, and the city invests heavily in development of these particular fields.  The area just north of Copenhagen is nicknamed ‘Medicon Valley’ due to an abundance of medical businesses.
