Danish pharmaceutical giant sets ambitious sustainability goalDenmark and capital city Copenhagen have a reputation as sustainable front runners which is also reflected in the clean tech and life-science industries. Most recently, Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk has revealed its ambition to become self-sustainable by 2020.

Novo Nordisk is one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical corporations, especially known for their work with diabetes medicine. The company has an ambitious sustainability policy centered around the triple bottom line of social, environmental and economic concerns and has just announced that all of its 17 production plants worldwide will be self-sustainable by 2020.

“Setting an absolute target of zero CO2 emissions from electricity at all our global production sites in just five years is ambitious, as our production is growing to meet the increasing global demand for our diabetes products,” says Henrik Wulff, the executive vice president and head of Novo Nordisk’s product supply.

Novo Nordisk’s sustainable policy is well-aligned with the City of Copenhagen’s ambition to become Co2 neutral by 2025.

Medicon Valley = a conference magnet

The the area north of Copenhagen, where Novo Nordisk is headquartered, has been nicknamed ‘Medicon Valley’ due to an abundance of large international medical corporations being situated here.

Copenhagen’s medical, life-science, and clean-tech industries attract numerous conferences to the city each year. One such conference is the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Association and Conference Forum , where around 70 influential members of associations that primarily stage medical and clean-tech industry conferences with 3,000+ delegates will gather in the Danish capital in January 2016.
