ITB50yearsA new brochure about trips along the river – the ITB Berlin Convention features the Danube Forum – free tours of the stands highlighting destinations on the Danube

’A Day on the Danube’ is the title of the brand new image brochure all about the Danube and is the topic of this year’s presentation under the slogan of Danube@ITB. It stands for the wide range of activities and attractions that the Danube region offers as a tourism destination. At ITB Berlin 2016 the countries on the Danube will be exhibiting their cultural, nature and adventure tourism products, with a focus on biking and cruises on the river. At the ITB Berlin Convention, at the Danube Forum, high-ranking figures will discuss the opportunities and challenges under the heading of ’Living the future on the Danube’. A free tour organised by an expert on the Danube will also provide trade visitors with in-depth information about tourism in the regions bordering Europe’s second-longest river.

The market for tourism on the river which passes through more countries than any other waterway has grown enormously. Every year, millions of tourists flock to destinations on the Danube, from its source in Germany to the Black Sea. Visitors to the stand of the Danube Competence Center (DCC) in Hall 2.2 can find out more about tourism products offered by the Danube regions. On Friday, 11 March at 10.30 a.m., in cooperation with ITB Berlin and under the heading of ’Biking along the Danube’, the Danube Competence Center will be hosting a free tour of the river. An expert on the Danube will be taking visitors on a trip of the river, starting in Germany and passing through Hungary, Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria, and ending on the delta in Romania. The presentation, which is free of charge, will highlight innovative tourism products and new ideas for tour operators, journalists and holidaymakers alike. Visitors interested in taking part can find out more information, including on how to register, at http://www.danubecc.org/itb/.

At the ITB Berlin Convention the Danube Forum will be discussing future prospects and economic developments. On Friday, 11 March, at 3.30 p.m. a discussion will take place at the Danube Forum on the following topic: ’Living the future on the Danube’ – neighbouring destinations – partners or competitors?’, which will focus on the role of regional initiatives and organisations in developing tourism products. Petra Hedorfer, chairman of the board of the German National Tourism Board; Nick Greenfield, head of Tour Operators Relations (ETOA); and Daniela Wagner, regional director, Europe, Middle East and Africa (PATA), will be exchanging expert views on the development of tourism and the prospects for the Danube region.

Once again, visitors can take part in the popular Danube@ITB holiday game, which features prizes. Participants who obtain seven stamps from the stands of Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia, the countries on the Danube, can win a trip to remember in the Danube region and find out more about what a ’A day on the Danube’ might be like.
