Money saving tips for buying travel insurance

As the main holiday season draws to a close it’s a good time to review your travel patterns and think about the most cost effective way of buying your travel insurance in the future. For choice and ensuring what you are buying is suitable, more and more people are finding it best to buy from a specialist travel insurance company, such as World First Travel Insurance.

Martin Rothwell, Managing Partner at World First Travel Insurance says, “In the current economic climate it’s no wonder that cost is the biggest driver for people when making a purchasing decision.  But very often the best way to save money is to think ahead for 12 months and anticipate when, where and with whom you might travel so you can buy an annual policy.”

There is still plenty of flexibility if you a buy an annual policy and your plans change. You can add different regions to you policy mid-term, for example, if you start with a European policy but then decide to travel to the States, this can be added.  It is always a condition of any insurance policy that should your circumstances change you inform your insurer immediately.

An annual family travel insurance policy will cover the family as a group and individual members when they travel separately too. So grown-ups are covered for business trips or getaways without the kids. Children, providing they are accompanied by a responsible adult, will be covered for any number of school trips or summer camps and, if they are bold and adventurous, you can add activities such as watersports or skiing.

There are many household names offering travel insurance but very often they are ‘generic’ policies and may not offer adequate cover for your needs. The same also applies to insurance offered by banks, often as an incentive linked to changing or retaining your account. It can be incredibly expensive if something goes wrong and you are not cover by such policies.

Price comparison websites are useful for researching the range of travel insurance companies and policies available but do pay attention to the detail. Cheaper policies often have a much larger excess and may not be as generous in terms of assistance with delays, disruption or repatriation.

Martin concludes, “We are a family run firm that focuses solely on travel insurance. We use over 25 years of experience and industry expertise to ensure that we offer the most comprehensive range of policies on the market, they are competitively priced and give proper protection.”
