Money honeymoon

AN amazing £47.2million is being spent on gay and lesbian honeymoons, it was revealed yesterday.

An average £5,000 was forked out by 8,700 couples entering into Civil Partnerships in 2007.

The complete spend on leisure travel by couples living in the United Kingdom is £4.7billion.

These incredible figures were revealed by Ian Johnson, CEO of Out Now , at World Travel Market at ExCeL London.
The data comes from Out Now 2008 Millivres Gay Market Study, the most extensive and comprehensive study carried out in this country.

Johnson says: “Gay and lesbians are a lucrative market that is now well understood. But the industry needs to get a better grasp on the fact there is immense diversity within the gay consumer market for travel.

“Many operators are missing significant opportunities to maximize their profits by mistakenly attempting a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to their gay tourism marketing activities.”
