Radisson Blu Hotel Prague Restaurant Awarded First Michelin Star

The Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group has announced that the Radisson Blu Hotel Prague’s fine dining restaurant, “The Alcron”, been awarded its first Michelin star. The intimate restaurant featuring just 24 seats is headed by Czech chef Roman Paulus and offers an exclusive menu focused on fish and seafood.

“We are very proud of Roman Paulus and his professional, dedicated team. Michelin honors the best of the best only and “The Alcron” is a true jewel where our guests enjoy food and hospitality of outstanding quality,” said Kurt Ritter, President & CEO of the Rezidor Hotel Group that operates the hotel.

“The Alcron” opened its doors in 1932 and soon became a favourite venue for celebrities such as writer Frederick Forsyth, French cabaret owner Maurice Chevalier, U.S. General Douglas MacArthur and Czech athlete Emil Zatopek. Much like the Radisson Blu Prague hotel itself, the elegant dining room is designed in Art Déco style. It features an original fireplace from the 1930s and wall paintings of dancing couples by Tamara de Lempicka.

Chef Roman Paulus, who has worked in famous kitchens like at The Savoy in London and on board the legendary cruise liner “Queen Elizabeth II” before joining “The Alcron” four years ago, firmly believes in perfect, fresh ingredients and excellent service: “Food must have taste and be fun at the same time,” he said.

Together with David Patek, Food & Beverage Manager at the Radisson Blu Hotel Prague, Paulus has put together a carefully selected, rigorously trained and highly creative team at “The Alcron”.

“To have the right attitude and ambitions is crucial for us. We cannot work with people who are willing to make a soup out of instant powder,” he commented.

Located in the heart of the Golden City, the Radisson Blu Alcron Hotel Prague is just steps away from famous attractions such as Old Town Square, Prague Castle, Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge. A lavish, avant-garde accommodation when it opened in 1932, the hotel’s historic features have been meticulously restored, preserving details like glittering chandeliers, rich Italian marble and creamy milk glass. All 206 guest rooms retain the grace and elegance of a bygone era while offering modern conveniences, such as free high-speed internet access, LCD flat-screen televisions, Nespresso coffee machines and state-of-the-art online entertainment systems.

CottoCrudo Restaurant, Bar and Lounge Opens at Four Seasons Hotel Prague

CottoCrudo Restaurant, Bar and Lounge Opens at Four Seasons Hotel Prague

Vibrant new restaurant on the banks of the Vltava introduces a new dining concept to the city beginning March 2, 2012.

The stylish new restaurant, bar and lounge CottoCrudo opens atFour Seasons Hotel Prague on March 2, 2012. CottoCrudo, which means “cooked and raw,” introduces a new dining and lounge concept to the city. An Italian classics menu with a modern twist, a central culinary station with prime Italian delicacies, a crudo bar, variable seating options and a unique design showcases the latest in dining trends.

Awaking the Senses

CottoCrudo is a stylish choice for dining, casual meetings or rendez-vous. Guests enter the restaurant through revolving doors from Veleslavínova Street and are instantly attracted by the central culinary station featuring the crudo bar – “raw” bar in Italian – a cheese cellar including the mozzarella bar, a salami and prosciutto tower, pane e grissini freshly baked breads and wine displays.

Executive Chef Richard Fuchs is uses the very best seasonal ingredients. “Working with the best of our seasonal quality ingredients, we offer an extensive menu of Italian and Mediterranean dishes, including fresh seafood, homemade pasta, choice meat cuts, and artisan products from the Piedmont and Tuscany regions of Italy.

“Here are some of my favourites: saffron arancini di riso and tomato basil salsa or Piedmont beef tartare from starters; fresh tagliatelle with wild boar and pecorino di Pienza or Mediterranean seafood soup with fregola sarda as Italian primi and grilled yellow fin tuna with eggplant caviar and caponata or costoletta alla milanese as main dishes. For a sweet finale I would recommend Amarena cherries chocolate cake or cannoli.

“The crudo bar will definitely be a new statement for the city. Crudo is an Italian interpretation of traditional sashimi. Our team of chefs will prepare and garnish fresh seafood right before our guests. Tuna, branzino, lobster, scallops and oysters are just few of our offers at the Crudo bar.”

Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy an extensive wine list of more than 300 labels, of which 26 wines will be available by mezzo(Italian carafe), and an eclectic cocktail list featuring Italian and Czech twists on classic recipes.

Casual, But Smart and Unpretentious

The CottoCrudo concept was inspired by the design and architecture of Prague. The aim was to create a sense of patina and history to contrast with the sleek, modern aspect of the bar and culinary stations. The new lay-out is a synergy between the restaurant, lounge and the bar, so it becomes one multi-faceted space. Restaurant design highlights are the Berkel slicer, full height leather booths and decorative light fixtures made by Preciosa.

“We wanted the culinary station to be the equivalent of a Maserati parked in the middle of the dining room,” adds Mark Wilson, Studio Director of EDG, the architects and authors of the concept.

CottoCrudo is located in the very heart of Prague and reflects guests’ expectations and needs: an attractive, informal, stylish and elegant venue in Prague, defined by high quality cuisine. “Opening CottoCrudo is one of our strategic initiatives for this year. Our ambition is to introduce a preferred dining venue in Prague that will be accommodating for a wide public, as well as our most discerning clientele,” says Rene Beauchamp, general manager of Four SeasonsHotel Prague.

The new urban space is the creation of EDG Interior Architecture + Design, with 142 seats in the dining room, lounge and bar, and will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails daily.

Kuoni Opens New Store in Canterbury

Kuoni, a leading luxury travel brand, has opened a sumptuous new store in the Whitefriars Shopping Centre in Canterbury, with an unusual ‘meet and greet’ desk. The desk is knitted from 3,250 metres of Merino lambs-wool, other mixed wools and cotton in a variety of eye-catching colours.

Mrs Margit Viola of Augsburg in Germany is the lady who spent weeks lovingly knitting the desk using 34 balls of wool in colours: orange, bright blue, grey, black, brown and white. The completed piece was then flown to the UK and installed, ready to meet Canterbury’s Lord Major and other VIP guests from Canterbury on the 31 January 2012 at the store’s official opening party. Mrs Viola, well known for her knitting prowess, was commissioned by Kuoni to start knitting the desk back in 2011.

The inspiration for the knitted desk came from Julie Day, Facilities Manager at Kuoni, who says: “I wanted to create a dramatic first impression to the store as well as an unusual feature. The knitted desk is a real talking point and people love to touch and feel its texture. There is something about wool that is naturally warm and welcoming; this feel links with what Kuoni wants to convey – the warm welcomes our travellers receive from our staff across the world.”

In addition to the meet and greet desk, the store also boasts a dramatic 16 metre long rug that runs the length of the floor and up a wall to ceiling height in a dramatic mix of terracotta, mustard, olive green and beige colours. Authentic artefacts from different countries such as Bali and Africa make visitors feel a sense of far flung places and exotic travel from the moment they arrive in store.

Kuoni’s Personal Travel Experts are on hand in the Canterbury store to help advise-on and plan the best holiday for you. Customers can find the store at 16 Marlowe Arcade, Whitefriars Shopping Centre, Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2TJ or phone on 01227-463-800.

Jumeirah’s Zebra Shark is first of its species to reproduce through parthenogenesis

Jumeirah’s Zebra Shark is first of its species to reproduce through parthenogenesis

The Aquarium team of Burj Al Arab, the World’s Most Luxurious Hotel, has announced that the Zebra Shark inhabiting the hotel’s ‘underwater restaurant’ aquarium is the first shark of its species to reproduce without the presence of a male – a process known as parthenogenesis.

The mother shark currently lives with her daughter, ‘Nimr’, who is one of 21 surviving Zebra Sharks to have been reproduced through the process of parthenogenesis since 2007.

The evolutionary phenomenon has never before been recorded in this species of shark, Stegostoma Fasciatum (widely known as the Zebra Shark). It has been genetically confirmed through scientific research, following which an article has been reviewed by peers and published in Journal of Fish Biology*.

Working closely with Dr Khazanehdari of the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory in Dubai, the process of parthenogenesis was confirmed through the DNA analysis of some of the mother shark’s offspring. The discovery, coupled with the survival of the pups, is a significant breakthrough in science, questioning existing knowledge of shark reproduction.

Widest and tallest cabin of any business jet, with designer interior

Acropolis Aviation’s Airbus ACJ319 is being exhibited for the first time at the NBAA show, giving visitors the chance to see a designer interior in what is the widest and tallest cabin of any business jet, existing or planned.

The stylish look of the Acropolis Airbus ACJ319’s cabin was created by the Alberto Pinto design company, with cabin-outfitting by the Airbus Corporate Jet Centre (ACJC). The aircraft seats 19 passengers, in around twice the comfort, space and freedom of movement of traditional business jets of similar external size.

“With a hugely better cabin than traditional business aircraft, Airbus corporate jets can carry larger groups, as well as delivering a better environment for work and relaxation, which is why they are the new top of the line in bizjet travel,” points out Airbus COO, Customers John Leahy. “So whether you’re a company executive, a high net-worth individual, or a senior government official, you’ll always have a better ride in an Airbus corporate jet,” he adds.

They are the leaders at the top-end of the market, where they consistently win more orders and register more deliveries.

Their success is built on a culture of innovation, which brings a continuous flow of worthwhile technological innovations that keep the Airbus aircraft family young and growing, as new versions and models are introduced to satisfy the world’s air transport needs.

Airbus corporate jets are the only ones flying on every continent, including Antarctica, highlighting their versatility. And with some 450 Airbus customers and operators worldwide, operators are never far from someone else who is also flying them.

Total orders for Airbus corporate jets stand at more than 170 aircraft, comprising more than 110 sales of the ACJ318, ACJ319 and ACJ320, plus over 60 VIP and government widebody aircraft.

Four Seasons Hotel Prague Unveils New Looks in Modern and Baroque Buildings as Part of Five-Year Remodelling Program

Four Seasons Hotel Prague Unveils New Looks in Modern and Baroque Buildings as Part of Five-Year Remodelling Program

Four Seasons Hotel Prague, an assembly of three historic buildingsand one new building on the banks of the Vltava River in the Old City, is continuing to evolve the guest experience through design, with the unveiling of the newly decorated Presidential Suite in the Baroque building and rooms in the Modern building.

Presidential Suite

The new decór of the Presidential Suite, located in a Baroque structure dating back to 18th century, is indigenous to the architectural style and respect the history of the building. Included are curved and sculpted walls, some with sgrafito paintings (a centuries-old paint and wet plaster technique that literally means “graffiti”); vibrant colours and gilding; decorative details and ornaments; and Venetian plasters. Dominating red and gold shades are complementary baroque-style furnishings in dark brown, black and red. And inviting and comfortable seating area with sofas and a fireplace, a piano by the window with river views and a reading corner with leather armchairs and library give the living room a warm feeling and create a unique residential atmosphere. A Czech crystal chandelier and hand painted wall in sgrafito style brings superb ambiance to the dining room within the suite.

The one, two or four bedroom Presidential Suite is located on the second level of the Baroque building and offers unique views of the Vltava River, Charles Bridge, Malá Strana and Prague Castle from the living, dining rooms, and the master bedroom. For those looking for a unique and exquisite experience, the Hotel allows the entire Baroque building to be reserved for complete privacy.

Modern Building Rooms

Dating from the Hotel’s opening in 2001, the Modern building represents contemporary life in the capital – refined, relaxed and stylish. The style, created by renowned French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, is as eclectic as the city, inspired by the Austro-Hungarian Modernista style of the 1920s and 30s. Two colour options are featured: a hint of turquoise accentuates a palette of black, grey, white and chrome, and warm rust accentuates a palette of taupe, brown and chrome. Both options have Bohemian crystal elements, reflecting the country’s long artisan traditions. Striped wallpaper, Modernista vases and clean lines also pay homage to Czech aesthetic, while black and white photos of old Prague evoke a residential ambiance. The Modern building, one of four choices for guests choosing a room at the Hotel, offers nine room categories for guests who prefer a more contemporary environment for their stay.

Five Year Project

“The remodelling project is a testament to our commitment to constantly innovate and most importantly to always enhance the high quality of the guest experience,” says Rene Beauchamp, general manager of Four Seasons Hotel Prague. “Our visitors now have a choice of contemporary, Renaissance or Baroque designs. The response so far has been very positive, especially from our return guests who now have an opportunity to choose a different experience – depending on the purpose of their stay or current preferences.”

It’s all part of a five-year remodelling project for Four Seasons Hotel Prague that celebrates Czech tradition while creating a thoroughly modern place to stay, dine and meet in Prague. Throughout the Hotel’s public areas, contemporary works by Czech artists hint at the future of the city’s continuing design evolution. The Lobby and Renaissance building phases are complete, and remodeling of Classical building will follow. Redesign of the Hotel´s restaurant is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2012.

In 2012, the following hotels will join the collection:

“The unique thing about SkySearch is that it empowers its clients with information whenever they need it and wherever they are, ensuring increased efficiency and a faster response time.”

SkySearch is the first web portal of its kind that allows clients to book real aircraft. “Many times when chartering online, a website will generate a cost based on the estimated availability of an aircraft. When you charter online with SkySearch, you will be booking the aircraft that you see on the website”, said Mr. Darmanin.

Enquiries made through SkySearch are then logged on Air Charter Internationals internal database where a member of the Commercial Sales team is notified and begins working on the task. He also stated that since the test runs they have received some very positive feedback from the initial batch of users and is confident that SkySearch is on the verge of becoming a real success.

Stuart Wheeler, CEO of Air Charter International says: “We believe SkySearch is the future of the modern aviation consultancy, providing instant and accurate information at any time

Maintaining their twenty four hour on call sales team and dedicated Operations Ground staff for every flight ensures that Air Charter International can deliver on the information guests received from SkySearch, quickly and efficiently.

LONDON, May 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — To celebrate the official launch of London Syon Park, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, an opening party was held last night, at the new landmark property in the grounds of Syon Park in West London.

The guest list included, Gillian Anderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Zara Martin, Dan Pirrie, Geordie Greig, Hugo Burnand, Ben Elliot, Simon Hammerstein, Jean Louis Sebagh along with Jules Knight, Stephen Bowman and Humphrey Berney of classical band Blake. They were welcomed by Chris Nassetta, (President and CEO, Hilton Worldwide), Simon Vincent, (Area President, Europe, Hilton Worldwide), John Vanderslice (Global Head of Luxury and Lifestyle Brands, Hilton Worldwide), Andreas Panayiotou, (hotel owner and Chairman, The Ability Group) and Dale MacPhee, (General Manager, London Syon Park).

John Vanderslice, global head of luxury and lifestyle brands at Hilton Worldwide, said, “Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts has applied its values of timeless elegance and extraordinary service to our first London-based Waldorf Astoria property, which is completely unique with its beautiful location. The launch of this property reflects the ongoing demand from discerning customers who enjoy luxury travel and epicurean experiences.”

As guests enjoyed a gastronomic journey through the hotel and its herb garden, executive chef Lee Streeton served delicious and hearty canapés inspired by the Capability Brown designed vistas at Syon Park Estate and respecting the heritage of the land. These included melt-in-the-mouth Scottish Lobster with Baby Gem, Cucumber and Marie Rose Sauce, Streeton’s home smoked salmon with Shaved Fennel and Lemon and Julian Temperley Brandy Truffles with Passion Fruit.

An array of food stalls presented an elegant yet rustic feast of cheeses, vegetables and seafood, sourced locally or home grown at the hotel’s kitchen garden. The entire Astor Suite, one of the property’s premiere function spaces, was transformed into a dessert room with delicate, naughty-but-nice delights from macaroons, chocolate and marshmallows to alcohol infused ice-cream scoops created by executive pastry chef, Asoka ‘Paris’ Halaoawattage.

Signature cocktail served included The Delicious Duchess, the Special Chairman and The Manhattan – recognising the heritage of Syon Park and glamour of Waldorf=Astoria New York. Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne also flowed throughout the evening.

Referencing the Big Band and Swing Era which the Waldorf=Astoria New York has been synonymous, “The Rat Pack” performed live with a full orchestra performing music. Meanwhile, the La de Dahs, a triplet of kooky female singers, charmed guests with their delightful harmonies and vintage Brit-cool style – a nod to the quintessentially Englishness of the location.

Late night guests were invited to move into the Clubhouse – a dining and loft style entertaining space with an open kitchen. Guests enjoyed relaxed, eclectic, menu of Mediterranean tapas and more fresh cocktails, as chilled out tunes played in the background.

Tourism Minister John Penrose MP attended the event and said, “I’m delighted to see Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts developing its presence in Britain with what is a wonderful addition to our luxury offering. With our aim to attract four million extra visitors over the next four years it’s unique properties such as this that will provide people with more reasons to visit.”

London Syon Park, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel is a smart, stylish, new-build property with 137 guest rooms – offering the world renowned singular luxury experience of the Waldorf Astoria brand. Set in 200 acres of beautiful parkland, owned for the past 400 years by the Duchy of Northumberland, just seven miles from both Knightsbridge and Heathrow Terminal 5, London Syon Park provides a tranquil country retreat on the outskirts of London town.

Qatar Airways Premium Arrivals Lounge And Premium Terminal

Take Service To New Heights At Doha International Airport

Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways’ Premium Terminal at Doha International Airport topped polls at the Skytrax World Airport Awards, where it was honoured with the highest accolade ‘Best Premium Service Airport’ in its category.

The award ranks the Five Star carrier’s Premium Terminal as the best in the world’s top three terminals by the respected aviation industry audit, Skytrax. The award further cements the Premium Terminal’s stature as a world class luxury facility for passengers to unwind and relax before their flight.

The airline’s Premium Terminal, which caters exclusively to Qatar Airways’ First and Business Class passengers, scored top marks among 39 categories such as terminal ambience and comfort, staff attitude, seating and business facilities, restaurant choice and check in and immigration facilities.

Opened in 2006, the Premium Terminal is the world’s only dedicated stand-alone facility solely for First and Business Class passengers.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the award recognised the importance the airline placed on delivering service at the highest levels.

“In the highly competitive industry we operate in, the latest Skytrax Award shows that our Premium terminal is seen as a benchmark across the world. It is also a great testament to the hard work and efforts of Qatar Airways’ staff to deliver a Five Star experience to the millions of passengers we serve every year and a huge motivation for us to continue to raise the bar in our product offering.”

Since its opening over four years ago, the Premium Terminal at Doha International Airport has received a great response from the travelling public based on the exceptional privileges it provides its guests.

Over 350 staff ensure a 24-hours-a-day, seven-day-a-week operation where the airline’s premium travellers are provided with the highest levels of comfort and hospitality prior to catching their flight.

With its expansive serene water features and sleek interior design, the 10,000sqm Premium Terminal offers plenty of room to relax and unwind. Travellers feeling peckish can treat themselves to healthy snacks at the newly-introduced ‘Global Deli’ offering freshly baked wholemeal organic bread, a selection of delicious Italian antipasti dishes and exotic fruits.

Offering free wireless access throughout the entire terminal and a spacious business centre with PC workstations and printers, business travellers can easily stay connected and make use of the latest work solutions such as a secretarial service and several meeting rooms with video conference facilities.

In Qatar Airways’ First Class section of the Premium Terminal, passengers can enjoy massages in a soothing spa environment, saunas, jacuzzis or just rest in one of the five bedrooms available for a little nap on a longer transit.

Since the opening of the new separate Doha Arrivals Terminal at Doha International Airport in December 2010, Qatar Airways has further enhanced its service spectrum for its premium travellers with the launch of a dedicated Premium Arrivals Lounge.

The Premium Arrivals Lounge for Qatar Airways’ First and Business Class passengers, which is located landside after immigration, reflects the same chic decor of Qatar Airways’ Premium Terminal and allows travellers to freshen up or prepare for business meetings before exiting the airport.

Passengers are greeted with all the modern complimentary amenities they wish for, ranging from all-day dining and a signature 24-hour breakfast to business centre facilities and showers where travellers are provided with luxury toiletries and fluffy bathrobes and towels.

Just five months in operation, the Qatar Airways Premium Arrivals Lounge has received a great response, especially among corporate travellers who value the possibility of having a comfortable retreat after arrival in Doha before the start of a hectic work day.

The independent Skytrax World Airport Awards are based on survey results from almost 12 million questionnaires completed by passengers of over 100 different nationalities covering more than 240 airports worldwide. The survey evaluates travellers experiences across 39 different airport services and product factors from check-in, arrivals, transfer to departure at the gate.

In 2010, Qatar Airways was also voted third best airline in the world following the annual Skytrax survey of 18 million international passengers.

Royal for a day: London’s luxury hotels cash in

Royal for a day: London’s luxury hotels cash in

LONDON, April, 2011 – In a bid to stand out among the host of deals marking Prince William’s wedding, London’s luxury hotels are offering guests the chance to live like a royal for a night.

A red carpet and champagne reception awaits customers buying the “royal opulence” package at the Hyatt Regency London, which includes four nights in the royal suite, measuring 368 square metres .

For £36,000 (40,500 euros, $59,000) for six people, the clients are promised a glimpse of “the ultimate royal lifestyle”; a chance to relax in marble bathrooms, a fully equipped gym and a baby grand piano.

They have access to a chauffeur-driven Daimler car similar to those used in the royal fleet, as well as a butler who once worked for the royal family, and their own private chef.

To date, no one has bought the package but a hotel spokeswoman said there had been interest from Russian, American and British clients.

The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park is also offering a special royal wedding package which includes exclusive access to a roof terrace overlooking the procession route which William and his new bride Kate Middleton will take.

At a cost of £11,300 per person for six nights, exclusive of 20 percent sales tax, guests will also be treated to dinner at the London townhouse home of an unnamed member of the royal family.

Meanwhile at Swissotel The Howard hotel the emphasis is on the little girls who dream of being a princess.

For £2,904, girls aged between three and eight will get the full princess experience including a trip in a horse-drawn carriage to Westminster Abbey and a dress with matching fur cape, handbag, glitter shoes and a silver tiara.

The young guests will also be treated to a night in a luxury room as well as a “princess afternoon tea“, complete with non-alcoholic champagne for kids.

The Lanesborough’s £14,000 Suite Opens On 1 May

In early February, we heard that The Lanesborough was giving its lavish first floor suite a makeover. Apparently, the five-star hotel in London sold off all the old furniture from the suite at Bonhams’ period design sale on 29 March. The suite makeover must have been an elaborate and extensive one. Guests will soon be able to see what The Lanesborough has done with the space when the suite re-opens in May.

1 May will be the opening day for The Lanesborough suite. Sadly, the hotel will miss out on a unique opportunity to rake in big bucks over the royal wedding weekend. The Prince William-Kate Middleton wedding is on 29 April. But would two days of lost business really trouble the owners of a suite that is let out for a whopping £14,000 a night?

The Lanesborough suite is spread over some 4,000 square feet. Thus, it ranks among the largest luxury suites in London. It is not going to be the largest though, once the Corinthia Hotel London opens its doors in April. The Corinthia Hotel’s Royal Suite occupies 5,059 square feet of space.

But this is not a battle for space. Rather, it is all about who gives the better luxury experience. And luxury is a given at The Lanesborough suite that includes four bedrooms, six baths, two living rooms, a dining space and access to a 24-hour butler. The suite offers magnificent views of Green Park thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. The clincher to this ultra-luxurious deal? Guests will be transported around town in a chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce Phantom. elitechoice.org
