From July 6-10, 2018 up to 1,000 participants from all over the world will meet at the Vienna Hilton Hotel for the 15th International Congress on Neuromuscular Diseases (ICNMD) to discuss the latest advances in the treatment, healing and palliative care of muscular, nervous and neuromuscular junction disorders.

Hosted every two years by the World Federation of Neurology and the Research Group for Neuromuscular Diseases, the ICNMD includes teaching units, plenary sessions, workshops and poster meetings. The last two events were held in Nice in 2014 and in Toronto in 2016. Congress host Prof. W. Grisold confirms the strong international interest in the scientific gathering: “With more than 800 participants, the event in Toronto in 2016 was exceptionally well received, and there was a strong international delegate mix. Around half of the participants came from North and South America, and the other half from Europe. We are looking to increase quality and attendee numbers still further in Vienna.”

From September 16-19, 2018 the University of Vienna will host the 16th World Congress of the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE), where around 1,000 participants will focus on the latest treatment approaches. “The most recent congress took place in Singapore in 2016, setting a new record with around 800 delegates and almost 700 scientific contributions. We are already working flat out to ensure that we create a high-level information and networking platform for specialist esophageal surgeons, gastroenterologists, pathologists and oncologists in Vienna in 2018,” confirms Prof. Michael Rolf Müller. Responsible for organizing the Vienna meeting, he is aiming to sharpen the focus on interdisciplinarity and interactivity while increasing the involvement of younger participants.

Vienna – perfect infrastructure for meetings and congresses

Christian Mutschlechner, head of the Vienna Convention Bureau (VCB) at the Vienna Tourist Board explains: “Vienna’s special assets include its highly developed, internationally networked higher education sector which offers a range of opportunities for medical congresses, first-class accommodation and outstanding meeting infrastructure – in these two cases at the University of Vienna and the Vienna Hilton. The successful acquisition of both congresses contributes also to the long-term partnership between the Vienna Convention Bureau and ICS, a Vancouver-based professional congress organizer (PCO) which looks after both events.
