Domestic flights are in demand in Russia

According to ATOR Analytical Service the international air transportation from Russia increased by 23.6% in January 2011. It’s interesting to note that such indicator surpassed in two times the expectations of the analysts. Nevertheless, the total number of transported passengers by the Russian airlines increased only by 15.8% in January 2011 in comparison with the same period of last year.

The result of the first month of the year shows the fast rate of growth of the international transportation. The number of the passengers, who were transported outside the CIS countries, increased by 23.6% in January 2011 in comparison with the same period of last year. The Russian air companies transported 1 766 000 people during the January 2011.

More restrained growth demonstrated domestic air transportation. According to the results of January, the Russian airlines transported 2 912 200 passengers (-12.4% in comparison with December 2010).

The leading air companies in number of transported passengers remained the same: Aeroflot, Transaero, Sibir, UTair and GTK Rossiya. The share of TOP 5 air carriers amounted to 57.2% (2 252 300 transported passengers). source:atorus.ru
