DUBAI WORLD TRADE CENTRE’S HOSPITALITY TEAM WINS HIGHEST NUMBER OF AWARDS AT THIS YEAR’S SALON CULINAIRE

1,200 Entries from More than 87 Establishments Participate in the Biggest Gastronomic Competition the World

Dubai World Trade Centre’s (DWTC) multi-award winning hospitality team once again gain international acclaim at this year’s Salon Culinaire, by taking away a total of 44 medals. From practical cooking competitions to buffet and banqueting show pieces, participants at this globally renowned cooking competition were tested on a wide range of skills and techniques, with a panel of 25 world famous experts mandated by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) ensuring the highest competition standards.

The Emirates Salon Culinaire 2011, run by the Emirates Culinary Guild and held at DWTC, is a series of practical and display-based culinary competitions, entry to which is open to professional chefs, cooks and bakers. To prepare for this acclaimed yearly event, DWTC’s chefs go through an intensive six month training programme after which the best are selected to participate in the competition. A representative from the team likened to selection and preparation process akin to a major sporting event, with participants dedicating long hours to create the show stopping dishes that highlight DWTC’s culinary talents.

Mohammed Al Jumairi, Vice President Hospitality at the Dubai World Trade Centre said, “Salon Culinaire is an opportunity to showcase the extraordinary cooperative, gastronomic and artistic skills of DWTC’s industry leading chefs. Considering the competition occurs during peak season for our hospitality department, with a large number of weddings and events being managed concurrently, the great success the team achieves is owed to their unwavering dedication and solid teamwork. DWTC’s hospitality offering is one of the UAE’s best, highlighted again this year at Salon Culinaire. “

For the fifth consecutive time, DWTC was presented with the much sought after award ‘Best Effort of a Single Establishment in the UAE’, stressing the excellence of the centre’s world-class culinary creations. World acclaimed DWTC chef, Lifeng Dong, was presented with the award for ‘Best Kitchen Artist in the UAE’ for the fourth time, as a result of his artistic acumen and practical dexterity. With a total of 44 awards, DWTC was the most prized establishment in the competition, continuing to build on its international reputation as a centre of excellence.
