The 2012 Carnegie Book Awards will take place at the Barbican as the awards celebrates 75th anniversary.

The 2012 CILIP Carnegie Book Awards will be held at Europe’s largest combined arts and conference venue.

The distinguished awards are a presentation of two medals – the Carnegie Medal – the UK’s most influential children’s book award – and the Kate Greenaway Medal which is awarded for outstanding illustration in a book for children and young people. Both medals are awarded annually by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP). The awards prestige is rooted in the unique judging process which pools the professional expertise of librarians from across the country.

This year’s awards ceremony, which also marks the 75th anniversary of the Carnegie Medal, will take place on June 14 in the Barbican’s Cinema 1, followed by a reception in the Garden Room and Conservatory.

The Barbican was specifically built with the dual purpose of holding conferences and arts events and remains one of the world’s most creative venues, and therefore provides an ideal backdrop for the awards.

We are delighted at their decision to choose the Barbican for this event and we look forward to welcoming them in June.”
