The Year of “El Greco” – four centuries after his death

The Year of El GrecoApril 7th 2014 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of the renowned artist “El Greco” in Toledo, just 68 kilometres from Madrid.

To mark the occasion there will be a special Requiem Mass in the Cathedral of Toledo written by Cristobal Morales and directed by Michael Noone. Five special exhibitions will also open to commemorate “El Greco’s” life and work.

On April 12th, Toledo’s Cathedral will also host a performance of Verdi’s Requiem conducted by Riccardo Muti as a further special event to pay homage to the memory of this giant figure of the art world.
