Australia’s largest German festival, Oktoberfest, will once again transform the Brisbane Showgrounds into a mini Bavaria, from tomorrow.

More than 40,000 people are expected to don their Dirndl and Lederhosen over the next two weekends (October 7-9 and 14-16) as they flock to Oktoberfest Brisbane for their German cultural fix.

The iconic event will feature plenty of traditional folk music, an authentic showcase of German cuisine including pretzels and pork knuckles, specially brewed beers and even rides.

Brisbane Showgrounds General Manager of Venue Sales and Marketing Jago Coyle said the authentic celebration of German culture and tradition had been held at the Brisbane Showgrounds for almost a decade.

“Oktoberfest Brisbane is a hugely popular festival on the city’s event calendar and we’re thrilled it’s returning to the Showgrounds for the ninth year in a row,” he said.

“The event brings to life the culturally rich atmosphere at the heart of the Oktoberfest celebration in Bavaria and with its Kinder Zone for children there really is something for everyone.

“The Brisbane Showgrounds has a wide range of versatile event spaces which makes it perfect for hosting these large indoor / outdoor festivals.”

The gates to Oktoberfest Brisbane will open at 4pm tomorrow.

The 22 hectare Brisbane Showgrounds precinct is located just 1.5km from Brisbane’s CBD and is Queensland’s largest indoor / outdoor events site.
