Specialist events agency Goose Live Events delivered the largest ever international Formula Student event at Silverstone from 14th to 17th July 2016, attended by over 3,500 engineering undergraduates from all over the world.

The Surrey-based corporate and public events agency, which also owns and manages the Silverstone Classic, organised the event on behalf of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers for the ninth year running. In 2016 the event was bigger than ever before with over 120 teams registered, representing 31 countries and brought top engineers of the future to the home of British motor racing.

Backed by industry and high profile engineers including Patron Ross Brawn OBE, the main aim of the annual competition is to inspire and develop enterprising young engineers from leading universities across the globe.

Entrants are challenged in teams to conceive, design, build, cost, present and compete a small single-seat racing car in a series of static and dynamic competitions throughout the four-day competition.

The team at Goose Live Events were contracted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, promoters of the competition, to manage all elements of the pre-event planning and co-ordinate the logistics of the world-renowned event. Responsibilities included appointing suppliers, managing security and health and safety, creating judging schedules and signage, supervising the site and dynamic track layouts, marshalling and other event-management duties.

Neil Carr-Jones, Senior Event Manager at Goose responsible for the project comments: “We are very proud to play an integral part in an event which challenges and discovers the top engineers of the future. Most Formula 1 Grand Prix teams employ Formula Student engineering graduates and many alumni volunteer every year to assist in the judging or technical scrutineering as a mark of appreciation for what this competition has done for them in expanding their career opportunities.

“Organising the logistics of an event such as Formula Student is no mean feat but we find it immensely rewarding to be involved,” he adds.
