The collaboration between the two Rhineland conference and convention destinations, Cologne and Dusseldorf, at international level has stood the test of time. The new marketing partnership “KÖLNDÜSSELDORF — The Meetropolis” has now been awarded funding as part of the “Erlebnis.NRW” (“North Rhine-Westphalia Experience”) state competition and will soon be supported with funding of EUR 640,000. “The Meetropolis” was founded by the Cologne Convention Bureau and the convention bureau Düsseldorf.

Through the “KÖLNDÜSSELDORF — The Meetropolis” project, the two convention destinations, Cologne and Dusseldorf, aim to further fuse and strengthen their expertise and capacities when it comes to hosting conventions and events. A global marketing campaign will target the MICE target group (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events) and business guests; this campaign will emphasise the diverse range of events and activities on offer in both cities. The aim is to strengthen competitiveness with other major German cities. Both cities have an outstanding infrastructure for the events sector. What’s more, thanks to the two large airports and excellent railway and motorway links, both cities are easily accessible.

Mayor of Cologne Jürgen Roters congratulated the Convention Bureau on their funding: “I am delighted about the success of the Meetropolis project in the Erlebnis.NRW competition. Thanks to this success, the existing, well-functioning regional cooperation between Cologne and Dusseldorf will be further intensified and placed on a broader foundation.”

“The funding awarded for the “Meetropolis” project is great news!” says Dirk Elbers, Mayor of Dusseldorf. “The close collaboration between Dusseldorf and Cologne puts us in an excellent position in the convention sector. Funding from North-Rhine Westphalia guarantees that both of these cities on the Rhine will be able to strengthen their position in this sector even further going forward.”
