Hartmut Mehdorn appointed CEO of Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Mehdorn_HartmutAn important decision was taken at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Hartmut Mehdorn will take over as new head of the airport operating company Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.

This was announced by Matthias Platzeck, state premier of the land of Brandenburg and Chairman of the airport’s supervisory board. “With Hartmut Mehdorn, we have appointed a highly experienced manager with an extensive track record in the aviation sector. I am certain that under his leadership, Berlin Brandenburg Airport will be met with increased acceptance, and that as CEO he will put the airport back on track towards a successful opening.” 

Hartmut Mehdorn said: “I very much appreciate the trust of the supervisory board to task me with the leadership of the airport company and with the completion of BER in such difficult circumstances. The most important task will be to regain the trust of the airport’s customers, the airlines, and to commence flight operations at BER in a dependable and reliable manner.”

About Hartmut Mehdorn

Mr Mehdorn was born on 31 July 1942 and was raised in Berlin. He is married with three children. He began his career in 1965 in the R&D department of Focke-Wulf and later became head of production at MBB. From 1979 to 1984 he was member of the management board of Airbus Industrie S.A. in Toulouse, and from 1984 to 1989 he headed the MBB Group‘s aviation subsidiary; in 1985 he also became a member of MBB’s management board; from 1989 he was CEO of Airbus Germany, and until 1995 he was a board member of Deutsche Aerospace AG. From 1995 to 1999 he was CEO of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and also a member of the management board of energy company RWE AG. From late 1999 to April 2009 Mr Mehdorn served as CEO of German railway operator Deutsche Bahn AG. On 1 July 2009, Hartmut Mehdorn became a member of the supervisory board of Air Berlin PLC, and from 1 September 2011 to 6 January 2013 he was also the airline’s chief executive.
