On Saturday September 21st nine hundred runners from all around the world will live, for a fourth consecutive year, the excitement of Mykonos Run «The Athletic Side of Mykonos”.
Mykonos Run 2019 is the long- awaited sporting event on the island, proudly organized by the Region of South Aegean, the Municipality of Mykonos, the new Aegon Mykonos, Autograph Collection hotel by Marriott International and Out Loud Event Services and officially certificated by AIMS and supported by Greek EAS SEGA Cyclades.
There will be 3 races happening that day, the 10,1km race, the smaller 5,1km race as well as the kids game race. The adult races will be following the traditional ancestor’s route during the 18th century, starting point being the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani in Ano Mera Gialos, offering participants a wonderful athletic opportunity to pass through unknown beauty spots on the island with supreme seaviews of bays and the unique Mykonos rock forms.
In this year’s event, in 2019, an event which year by year attracts the attention of local athletes as well as international VIP participants, is setting a new record for entries, as hundreds of athletes from Great Britain, USA, Latin America and Greece have registered to participate. Amongst them we shall be able to meet the winner Mykonos Run 2018, Nahimana Cavaline, who aims at breaking the record of the individuals and Michael Kalomoiris, the first Greek athlete who finished the race of 10km. Among VIP internationally renowned athletes who will attend this year’s Mykonos Run 2019, we shall find the champion of Mοrocco Mrs Soukaina Atanane and Mr Murad el Bannouri, Silver IAAF member.
Mykonos Run 2019 is dedicated to the memory of the Greek Marathon runner, humanitarian and patriot Stylianos Kyriakidis, who won the first place at the 50th Boston Marathon in 1946, wearing the shirt No. 77. For that reason, his son Mr Dimitris Kyriakidis, member of the Athens Marathon Organizing Committee has been invited and will be present at the Mykonos Run 2019 event.
