SARAWAK SET TO HOST THE REGION’S MAJOR INTERNATIONAL POWER AND PETROLEUM EVENT

borneoThe power and petroleum industry in the region are set to gather in Kuching, Sarawak – the future energy hub of Asia for the International Energy week (IEW) 2009. The Three day event is starting from 3-5 November 2009 at the brand new Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.

Hosted by the Sarawak State Government, supported by Sarawak Convention Bureau and organized by AMB Exhibitions (Kuala Lumpur), the IEW 2009 will welcome over 5,000 delegates and trade buyers for the energy industry across the region. It also provides industry professionals to explore business partnerships, generate business and investment opportunities in the multi-billion dollar Sarawak Corridor on Renewable Energy (SCORE).

YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister of Sarawak said, “It is my pleasure to welcome all delegates and participants to the brand new Borneo Convention Centre for the IEW 09. This event is timely as it will complement the development of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).”

“Sarawak has tremendous potential in the energy sector. We have one of the largest gas reserves in the world and at the same time, significant capacity for hydropower. The State Government is committed to ensuring that our resources will contribute to the betterment of our people and nation. In addition, by bringing in industry experts, academicians and technology suppliers, Sarawak can become a Centre of Excellence where training, research and development can flourish.” Chief Minister of Sarawak added.

Exhibitors include top industry players including BC Petrochemical Sdn Bhd, Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd, Nippon Oil Exploration, Petroleum Technical Services Corporation- Vietnam, PETRONAS, Sapuracrest Petroleum Berhad, Sarawak Shell Berhad, Siemens Malaysia, Sirim Berhad, Yangtze Three Gorges Technology And Economy Development Co. Ltd and many others.

Meanwhile, Mrs Jill Henry, CEO of the Sarawak Convention Bureau added “Hosting this prestigious event will help add to the credibility of Sarawak as a new hub for international exhibition. Our unique destination offers rainforest side by side with a booming export economy means that professional delegates will have a memorable and productive meeting.”
