Asian Games Delegations to Proselyte 2010 Games To Global Audience

asia gamesGUANGZHOU, China – November 19, 2009 – The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en), part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is sending more than 500 delegations around the globe to proselyte the message of “Thrilling Games Harmonious Asia” and the vision of the 2010 Games in Guangzhou.

The Asian Games are the second largest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games.

In total, some 569 Asian Games Volunteer Messengers delegations will depart Guangzhou and travel to different parts of the world to promote the Games during the next six months.

The delegations will consist of 19 key delegations, 50 standard delegations and 500 promotional delegations, according to Mr. Wei Guohua, Deputy Director of the Volunteers Department of Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GACOG).

GZL International Travel Service Ltd., a touring service supplier for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games, is co-organizing this event with the Volunteers Department of GAGOC.

The Guangzhou Asian Games Volunteer Messengers campaign was launched in June 30. Mr. Wei said that the Volunteers Department of GAGOC has already organized 166 Volunteer Messengers delegations with 13,768 volunteer messengers to promote the Games across China and throughout Asia, visiting Beijing, Qinghai, Tibet, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. The message of the campaign has been and will continue to be one of enhancing the awareness of The 16th Asian Games.

The 13,768 volunteer messengers came from varied backgrounds, including entire families with three generations; students who recently completed their college entrance examinations; overseas Chinese and entrepreneurs from different parts of China.

Since the last June launch, volunteer messengers have returned to the organizing committee some 8,000 mementos presented by people from different parts of the world, including postcards, congratulatory paintings and banners signed by tens of thousands of people. These memorials are testaments and wishes of people from different parts of the world for The 16th Asian Games.

Mr. Wei said that even more Volunteer Messengers delegations will set off around landmark dates in the lead-up to the Games, such as the 300-day countdown and 200-day countdown.

Themed “Ethnic Unity through Asian Games Year”, the campaign will carry out a variety of activities in host cities of previous Asian Games.
