FITUR HANDED OVER THE PRIZES WON AT THE 2010 EVENT

FITUR organised a prize-giving ceremony to hand over the prizes won at the last edition of the Trade Fair. The Tourism Fair took place from 20 to 24 January 2010. The event was chaired by Antonio Bernabé, managing director of TURESPAÑA and Antonio Nieto Magro, general manager of Tourism for the Madrid Region and José Manuel Maciñeiras, chairman of the jury for the Best Stand prize. José Mª Álvarez del Manzano, chairman of the executive committee, Luis Eduardo Cortés, chairman of the governing board, Fermín Lucas, managing director of Ifema and Ana Larrañaga, managing director of FITUR, handed over the prizes.

At the ceremony, representatives of the prize winners received a trophy for having the best stands at FITURE or the best active tourism products at the exhibition, as well as the Tribuna Vila Fradera, which recognises a previously unpublished academic work on the sector.

PRIZES FOR THE BEST STANDS AT FITUR 2010

At the 30th edition of this event, the prizes in the Autonomous Regions category went to the Basque Country; Promotur Turismo Canarias and Autonomous Regional Government of Castile and Leon. The jury also decided to give a special mention to the Benidorm City Council stand.

In the section devoted to international tourism, the award-winning stands were those from the Thailand Tourism Office, the design by Swiss Tourism and the Mauritius Tourism Office. A special mention also went to the efforts of Proexport Colombia in this category at FITUR.

Lastly, in the business area of the exhibition, the exhibition designs from Confortel Hoteles, AC Hoteles and ADIF, were chosen as the best corporate stands in 2010.

FITUR 2010 AWARDS FOR THE BEST ACTIVE TOURISM PRODUCT

In the meantime, the 15th edition of the Best Active Tourism Product Competition, organised jointly by FITUR and the magazine Aire Libre chose the same programme as Overall Winner of this competition and also winner of the Culture section. “Along the paths of Cantabria” and “Cantabria on the path Jacobean Holy Year 2010”, presented by the Department for Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Autonomous Regional Government of Cantabria.

In the other categories, Active Points from the Association of Active Tourism Entrepreneurs of Castile and Leon won the award in the Adventure section. The Nature section was won by Menorca Horses Route, sponsored by the Fundació Destí Menoría.

The best international product prize went to the Tourism Route commemorating the Mexican Revolution, from the Tourist Board of Mexico.

In addition to these awards, members of the jury also gave four special mentions to the projects entitled Route of the Castilian Language by the Fundación Camino de la Lengua Castellana; Bono Iacobus, presented by Turgalicia; Parador Museums, by Paradores; and Diving among black pearls of Tahiti in the Fakrava, a UNESCO biosphere.

TRIBUNA VILA FRADERA

The 2010 Tribuna Vila Fradera, a prize awarded by FITUR and the Spanish Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism (AECIT) to academic studies on the sector, was won by Juan Luis Nicolau, PhD in Economic and Business Sciences and Tenured Professor at the Department of Finance, Accounting and Marketing of the School of Economics and Business at Alicante University for his work entitled Holistic approach to tourism decisions.
