Liverpool Convention Bureau has announced plans to run a campaign aimed at highlighting the city’s sporting heritage and the forthcoming business tourism opportunities ahead of major events such as the 2012 Olympics and the 2014 Open Championship.

With preparation for London 2012 well underway, Liverpool believes that its sporting excellence and credentials as a business tourism destination will place the city in a prime position to win events that have been displaced out of London during the games. While news that Royal Liverpool is to play host to the 2014 Open Championship for the 12th time will further cement the city’s offering and attractiveness.

“Winning the Olympics has heralded the start to the UK’s decade of sporting excellence and a prime opportunity for all of the regions, including Liverpool, to benefit from the prestige and business opportunities that the games will bring;” Comments Simon Mills, Head of Business Visits and Events & Partner Marketing at VisitBritain.
