VisitBrighton celebrates after securing the return of the Liberal Democrats Conference in September 2012, which is expected to see 8,000 delegates convene in the city, injecting an estimated £10m into the local economy.

The win further underlines the city’s popularity as a stage for political conferences having hosted both the Labour Party and Green Party Annual Conferences and the Conservative Spring Forum all in the last 18 months.

Commenting on the win Darren Johnson, Convention Bureau Sales Manager said: “To once again be selected to host a high profile conference such as this further highlights our city’s credentials as a destination which can deliver exceptional city-wide business events. From superb hotels to outstanding social agendas our business product matches and reflects the needs of both the delegates and the event organisers. I know for those that plan to attend this conference, the city will provide them with a productive, memorable and enjoyable experience”

The conference will be held at the newly refurbished Brighton Centre which has undergone a £1million refurbishment focusing on improving the public areas of the venue throughout. This included an upgrade to the existing breakout areas, the conference centre’s Skyline restaurant, new signage throughout and the addition of alfresco coffee shops.

Council leader Mary Mears said:  “Since the Liberal Democrats last visited in 2007 there has been a significant increase in bars, restaurants and entertainment for conference delegates across the city. The council has also spent £1m improving the Brighton Centre, so they should find it more comfortable.”
