RIU Hotels & Resorts, the Best Leisure Hotel Chain in the Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards 2011

  • This is the sixth time the Spanish company has received a Globe. Previously winning Best European Hotel Group award in 2004 and 2005 and Best Leisure Hotel Chain Worldwide award in 2006 and 2009 and Best Hotel Chain Worldwide award in 2010 and now in 2011.

RIU Hotels & Resorts has been voted a winner at the prestigious Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards 2011: Receiving the accolade of Best Hotel Chain Worldwide. This award is especially important to the company since it is solely voted by UK travel agents and also independently verified. The Globe Travel Awards are designed to honour the very best within the travel industry with votes cast by Travel Weekly readers across 29 trade award categories.

The prize was awarded during a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. Over 1,000 guests attended the event which was hosted by the British comedian Jimmy Carr. The entertainment came from the famous street dance group Flawless and the X Factor´s Rebecca Ferguson.

The award was collected by Paul Bunce, Head of UK Market Development for RIU Hotels & Resorts, who stated that winning a Globe for the 6th time is “an outstanding continued recognition of our commitment to quality and service, which encourages us to keep working to fulfil our client’s needs and the trust that agents place in us“.

The Globe Travel Awards is one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the travel industry. It is presented by Travel Weekly and sponsored by Mail Newspapers. Since their launch in 1977, the Globes have recognised and rewarded the travel industry’s leading companies, who in the eyes of agents provide the very best for their customers. Travel Weekly has ABC audited closed circulation of 16,000, 75% of which reach high street travel agents.
