Airline credit and debit card fees for booking flights

easyJet have today (19th April 2011) increased their fees for booking flights with a credit or debit card. It will now cost £12.95 to use a credit card and £8 to use a debit card per booking.

Following the rise, easyJet’s credit card charge now tops the charts, with Ryanair’s charges just behind at £12 per return flight per person.

Airlines that still don’t charge anything include SAS, Swiss, and Iberia; whilst BA and KLM charge £4.50 for a credit card booking but nothing for a debit card booking.

Travellers need to be aware of the charges for booking flights with debit or credit cards, which can be a significant extra. However, remember, it’s the overall cost of the flight that really matters.

Some airlines don’t charge anything at all for using a credit or debit card, but the cost of the flight may still be more than an airline that does have a card fee.

For most airlines, there is a way to avoid the fee, by using a prepaid card or Visa electron.
