Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) President Leigh Harry has announced the winner of the 2011 JMIC Unity Award as Mr. Luc Maene, Director General, International Fertilizer Industry Association and President, European Society of Association Executives. Maene formally received the award at the IMEX Awards Banquet in Frankfurt, Germany May 25.

In making the Award, Harry said “This year’s Unity Award winner is well known throughout our industry as someone that is not only highly professional in their own activities but who has made an effort over many years to help educate and support others as well. His actions have contributed to better understanding amongst clients and suppliers, which has led to both stronger relations within the industry and a better result for the delegates who are the end users of the products we collectively create. As President of a major industry association he has built and sustained a valuable forum for industry development while contributing continuously to broader organizational and educational activities”.

The Unity Award is made annually to an individual who represents the best qualities of Meetings Industry Leadership and who has devoted major efforts to creating stronger relationships and a greater cohesion for the industry. Award criteria evaluate industry leadership and initiative both in a candidate’s own professional conduct and the efforts they put into industry-building through association, education and professional development activities.
