First of Six Major Convention Groups on Island This Week

SAN JUAN, June 13, 2011 – The Puerto Rico Convention Bureau is proud to announce the “Summer of Citywides,” as it welcomes the Sixth World Congress of the International Society of Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) taking place in Puerto Rico this week.

Beginning June 12th, the four-day conference at the Puerto Rico Convention Center Pedro Rosselló brings together practitioners in the field of physical and rehabilitation medicine to improve the knowledge, skills and attitudes of physicians in the understanding of patho-dynamics and management of impairments and disabilities.

The first of six ‘citywide’ conventions scheduled to take place at the Center this summer, the ISPRM World Congress will bring 1,200 delegates to the Island for an anticipated 2,950 room night bookings. Official host hotels include the Caribe Hilton, Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino, Conrad Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino and the Sheraton Old San Juan. The convention is expected to infuse $1.5 million in spending into Puerto Rico’s local economy.

In addition to a full schedule of plenary sessions, CME lectures, courses, workshops and exhibitions of abstracts, attendees will also have the opportunity to partake in various tours and excursions that will take delegates on visits to areas outside of San Juan, including Arecibo, Caguas, Ponce to enjoy a variety of singular experiences only available in Puerto Rico, including a rainforest tour, biobay kayaking, canopy zip-lining, snorkeling and more.

The American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA) Biennial will take place at the Puerto Rico Convention Center Pedro Rosselló from July 23 through 28. With the goal to celebrate the efforts of the ABCUSA family, the program includes worship sessions, discernment sessions, workshops and exhibits and serves as a time to unite with ministry members.

Including local participants, the ABCUSA Biennial will bring between 2,500-3,000 delegates for an anticipated 3,678 room nights to the official convention hotels that include the Caribe Hilton, Conrad Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino, Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino and the Courtyard by Marriott Miramar. During the program, delegates will reach out to local Puerto Rico Baptist churches and join them in their worship services.

Upcoming groups include the 46th International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) General Assembly, the International Federation of Library Association’s (IFLA) 2011 World Library & Information Congress, the Asociacion Interamericana de CPA and the National Association of Postmasters.
