The hotel.info Value for Money Index for Europe: Satisfied guests in the Czech Republic; beds still expensive in Scandinavia

London, 20. June 2011 – Summer is fast approaching prompting travellers to start dreaming of their next holiday. While some travellers have already finalised their holiday plans, many are still considering when and where to go for their next holiday. A major deciding factor when choosing a country to visit is the value for money that it offers the tourist.

The Value for Money Index carried out by hotel.info can help customers choose. hotel.info, the free online hotel reservation service with more than 210,000 hotels worldwide, analysed their customer reviews, on the basis of which country offers the best hotel value for money. So which European country provides hotel guests with the best value, and which the least?*

Travellers that place more emphasis on value for money are likely to find such in the Czech Republic. Booking customers awarded the Czech hotellerie 7.67 points, thus making them top of the list of the European Top 20. Hotels in Portugal also achieved an excellent result in second place, an improvement of five places from the previous evaluation. In Bulgaria and Poland guests were slightly less satisfied but nonetheless they still gained a place in the upper level of the table.

Slovakia was voted into mid-position by the booking customers due to a considerably improved value for money offered. In the venues for the Top Division of the 75th Ice Hockey world championships it will be interesting to see the result due to more international guests submitting evaluations after the event.

The French hotels overtook those in Switzerland with improved value for money being offered. France has now left the last position in the table of the Top 20 in Europe to Switzerland which really brings up the rear with only 6.53 points. Booking customers in Scandinavia are of the opinion that they receive the worst value for money in these nordic countries. Only hotels in Finland achieved a place in the list of the best.

* Guests who have booked hotel at www.hotel.info evaluate the hotel after their departure on the basis of a points’ system (0 to 10). Apart from criteria such as the quality of the room and friendliness of the staff they can also evaluate the value for money received. The analysis was based on well over a million evaluations of 2 to 5 star hotels in the 30 most populous countries in Europe.
