World Games 2017
Hungary might be the host of the next International World Games in 2017, after the project received a HUF 6 billion (EUR 22.53 million) guarantee from the cabinet. After the Olympics, the World Games, with its more than 30 non-Olympics sports, is one of the largest and most important international sport event in the world.
Budapest and GödöllÅ‘ are competing againts Wroclaw (Poland) and Cape Town (South Africa) to host the 2017 Games. The IWGA will officially announce the host city of the World Games 2017 in early spring next year, with the IWGA General Meeting ratifying the board’s recommendation for the Host City.
The re-launched Sports Ambassadors Program – thanks to the enthusiastic associations – is proud to present all together 22 bids. In 17 cases the Committee came to a positive decision (for example: Hungarian Athletics, Water Polo, Rowing, Wrestling, Dragon Boat, Football Association).
Some of the events that will be organized in Hungary in the following years:
  • August 2013, Dragon Boat World Championship, Szeged, 6000 competitors, 6000 visitors
  • September 2013, Adult Wrestling World Championship, Budapest, 800 competitors, 6000 visitors
  • March 2014, Veterans Indoor Athletics World Championship, Budapest, 4000 competitors and technician, 10.000 visitors
  • May 2014, VII. Sector Ball European Championship, Budapest, 400 competitors, 10.000 visitors
  • June 2014, European Waterpolo Championship, Budapest, 700 competitors, 65.000 visitors
  • December 2014, Woman’s European Handball Championship, 500 competitors, 120.000 visitors
