Thessaloniki welcomes the 40th Annual Conference of the European Society for Engineering Education(SEFI)

With a focus on Engineering Education and relevant growth, the 40th Annual Conference of the European Society for Engineering Education – SEFI will be taking place, for the first time in Greece from 23 until 26 September 2012 in Thessaloniki, under the auspices of the Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and in cooperation with the Board of European Students of Technology – BEST.

The aims of the conference are, inter alia, to contribute to the training of the Engineers of the future and promote new innovative actions for engineering education. Over 150 scientists from 32 countries, 100 Students of polytechnic and Engineering Schools, as well as representatives of all Engineer’s sectors, will be studying major issues related to the European goals as well as the strategies of SEFI for the year 2020.

Among others, the list of topics will include lifelong learning, gender and diversity, research on Engineering Education and ethics issues, ICT, quality assurance, cooperation between the Academic Community and Businesses, global mobility and international collaboration. Along with the scientific presentations, training workshops will also be held, as well as meetings of the Committees of SEFI.

It is worth noting that, within the framework of the Conference, the Leonardo da Vinci Medal will be awarded to the internationally-acclaimed figure in computational science, Professor Joseph Sifakis, holder of the A.M. Turing Award since 2007, also known as the ‘Nobel Prize of Computing’. Prof. Sifakis is set to become the first ever Greek to be honoured with the prestigious Leonardo Da Vinci Medal which, in the past, has been nominated to personalities such as Jacques Delors, Olgierd C. Zienkiewicz, Pierre Laffitte, Santiago Calatrava and more.

The conference will be held in Building 2 of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall and the official language is English. A trade fair will also be set up in the foyer, with the participation of bodies, leading companies of this sector, such as the Technical Chamber of Greece, Dassault Systemes, National Instruments, MathWorks, Archirodon, Hewlett Packard, ARM, TITAN, Attica Bank, Alumil, Fibran, Isomat and Civilshop.
