This month sees hotel prices decrease across Europe. An overnight stay in November will now cost an average of £86, compared to £99 in October and £105 in September. Hotel prices have decreased by an average of 18% in the past two months, and are now at their cheapest since January 2012. These are the findings of the trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI) reported monthly by www.trivago.co.uk. For more data and graphics please visit www.trivago.co.uk/hotelprices.

UK Hotel Prices: 7% decrease compared to last month, 15% decrease compared to last year

One night in the UK will cost an average of £111 this November, compared to £119 in October and £130 last November. Although hotel prices in the UK have fallen in comparison to October and September, the decrease is not as pronounced as the rest of Europe. One night in November is on average £7 cheaper than September and October, whereas hotel prices in Europe have decreased by an average of £19 in the past two months.
Most destinations have decreased by between 1% and 3% in comparison to October, with the exception of Brighton (down 10% to an average of £89 per night), Edinburgh (down 9% to an average of £95 per night) and Blackpool (down 9% to an average of £59 per night).
The only destination showing a significant increase this month is Cardiff, where hotel prices are up 8% to an average of £91 per night in comparison to October. Compared to this time last year, prices in Cardiff have increased by 13%. This could be due to a number of high profile football matches at the Millennium Stadium during November.
Aside from Cardiff, Liverpool is the only other main UK destination showing a significant increase in comparison to this time last year. Hotel prices are up 8% in Liverpool to an average of £81 per night.
Prices are down elsewhere across the UK in comparison to November 2011, most notably in London (down 9% to an average of £161 per night) and Newcastle (down 8% to £78).

EU Hotel Prices: 13% decrease compared to last month, 7% decrease compared to last year

Out of the 50 European cities in the November tHPI, hotel prices in 46 cities have decreased in comparison to last month. The largest decrease can be seen in Venice, where prices are down by 41% to an average of £112 per night. In October one night in Venice cost an average of £190 and in September £206, meaning prices have dropped by an average of £94 in the past two months. This could be due to a combination of the onset of colder weather in November, and a couple of large events in Venice: the International Film Festival in September and the International Festival of Contemporary Music in October.

Other significant decreases this month can be seen in Rome (down 31% to an average of £92 per night in comparison to October), Budapest (down 26% to £54), Barcelona (down 24% to £91), Paris (down 23% to £132), Prague (down 21% to £71), Istanbul (down 21% to £96) and Madrid (down 20% to £79).
In comparison to this time last year, hotel prices throughout Europe have decreased, although not as dramatically as the previous month comparison. Most significant decreases can be found in Bucharest (down 19% to an average of £57 per night), Dresden (down 18% to £65), Amsterdam (down 17% to £105) and Milan (down 16% to £106).

The www.trivago.co.uk hotel price index shows the average overnight accommodation prices for the most popular European cities on trivago. Prices for a standard double room are calculated on the basis of one million daily price inquiries for overnight hotel stays generated through the trivago hotel price comparison service. trivago stores all hotel requests for each month and therefore gives an overview of hotel accommodation prices for the upcoming month. The tHPI reflects the hotel prices within the European online hotel market: The overnight accommodation prices of over 100 online travel agents and hotel chains create the average hotel prices for cities, regions and countries within Europe.
