It was a busy and very successful year for Gdansk Convention Bureau/Gdansk Tourism Organisation

Workshops, fairs, conferences and industry meetings, cooperation with domestic and foreign partners – Gdansk Convention Bureau works actively whole year to promote Gdansk & Region as an attractive conference destination.

With many successes – in annual ICCA (International Congress and Conference association) statistical research Gdansk was described as one of 10 most dynamic developing congress destination in the world! In Poland Gdansk is ranked at third most popular business destination, right after Krakow and Warszawa.

Such a high position of Gdansk in rankings is a result of close cooperation between Gdansk Convention Bureau and local partners – PCO (Professional Conference Organisers), hotels, conference venues, service providers, science and business environment and Gdansk City Hall. This is why Gdansk Convention Bureau organizes cyclical workshops (TAOSB) dedicated to the Organisation members and which goal is to discuss new trends in meeting industry and present new technologies to promote destination.

GCB also took part in a project “Forum of Initiating Innovation” which purpose is to tighten cooperation between representatives of local government, business and organizations. Gdansk Convention Bureau also organizers regular meetings of GCB Business Club, recommends new PCO and develop Polish Congress Ambassadors Programme.

There are many events all over the world important for GCB and its Partners like: EIBTM The Global Meeting&Events Exhibition in Barcelona and IMEX The Worldwide Exhibition for Incentive Travel in Frankfurt. Gdansk Convention Bureau takes part in them every year and every year GCB receive several enquires about organizing conference in Gdansk. Gdansk Convention Bureau also organizes road shows (like the one in Munich organized in October 2012) during which team present Gdansk&Region business tourism offer to meeting planners interested especially in Gdansk and Pomerania Region.

Also in 2012 Gdansk Convention Bureau, as first convention bureau in Poland established cooperation with Jonkoping Convention Bureau from Sweden. Work between both convention bureaux is based on knowledge and experience exchange. Later this Gdansk Convention Bureau organized a successful study tour for members of Jonkoping Convention Bureau and Poland Convention Bureau.

Gdansk Convention Bureau is appreciated and awarded for its activities on domestic and foreign market. In 2012 Anna Gorska GOT/GCB CEO became a Chairperson of ICCA Central European Chapter, the biggest and most popular association in business tourism industry. Anna Gorska is also invited for international conferences as an expert (like Europe+Asia Event Forum) which proves that Gdansk Convention Bureau activities are perceived as one to follow.

In 2012 Gdansk Convention Bureau was also awarded during international tourism film festival “ART&TUR” in Portugal, for the best promotional film. Also this year Gdansk Convention Bureau, for the third time got the “Regional Leader of Innovation” title. Moreover, during the annual ICCA congress in Puerto Rico, Gdansk Convention Bureau activities were presented as a good example of effective use of social media. Also Gdansk Convention Bureau got very prestige award “For the best use of PR on stand” during EIBTM fairs in Barcelona.

Year 2012 was also important for Gdansk Convention Bureau because of introduction of the new mobile app GCBeVENT (first that kind in Poland). GCBeVENT app was already used during few events in Gdansk and it got positive opinions. Thanks to the app participants have access to the event agenda, information about participants, local information and many others. What’s more gcbevent.com website is ready to use. You can find there all information about the app and, what is more, if organizer doesn’t have his own event website he can use gcbevent.com and put there all information about the event. GCBeVENT app is available free of charge for those who want to organize event in Gdansk&Region.

Also professional magazines and websites (domestic and foreign) write often about Gdansk Convention Bureau activities which is a huge promotion for Gdansk&Region – there were more than 290 publication in 2012.

It was very intensive and hard-working year, just like all previous. But it was time full of successes which only proves that Gdansk Convention Bureau activities are important.
