As millions of British workers return to their desks, it is holiday planning, not work, that is at the top of the agenda.  Leading travel search site Skyscanner  expects Monday 7 January 2013 to be the busiest day of the year for flight bookings.

Monday 7 January busiest day of the year for flight bookingsSkyscanner, is anticipating a huge peak in traffic around 1pm on ‘Skyber Monday’ as Brits battle the back to work blues by heading online during their lunch break to book their next holiday.

Ever-popular sun spots, Spain and Italy are expected to be the top choices with British travellers booking holidays, based on Skyscanner’s data, while the US is also expected to make the top three, as flight searches continue to see a strong recovery following Hurricane Sandy.

Skyscanner has also identified Myanmar (Burma), China and destinations across Eastern Europe as some of the fastest growing countries over the past twelve months for the more adventurous British travellers.

Skyscanner’s Sam Poullain said: “January is typically a very busy month for holiday bookings, as British workers get back to their desks after the festive period and need that next holiday away to look forward to. We’re expecting the old favourites such as Spain, Italy and the US to be at the top of the list, but we’re also seeing a significant rise in destinations further afield such as Myanmar and China, while we expect to see Croatia become a firm favourite with those looking for an alternative sun spot in the Mediterranean.”
