KUALA LUMPUR CONVENTION CENTRE BREEDS GEN-Y CULINARY TALENTS80 budding chefs from eight culinary schools converged at the Youth Chef’s Table at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) with one mission – to produce a stunning ‘report card’ in the form of a gala dinner for 300 guests under the watchful eyes of Executive Chef Richmond Lim and his culinary team.

Themed “21st Century Young Chefs Cuisine Revolution”, the Chef’s Association of Malaysia (CAM) Youth Chef’s Table aims to educate and nurture young talents; especially Gen-Y, with an opportunity to work as culinary chefs, and to expose them to the behind-the-scenes preparation of the Centre’s 5-Star Banqueting. The aspiring chefs were guided throughout the process; from dealing with suppliers and purchasing raw materials to coming up with the recipes and finally, creating new age cuisine that meets the five senses.

“This initiative augurs well with the Centre’s ongoing pursuit for culinary excellence which goes beyond product offering, and further taps into training and development to produce a pool of talent of international standards,” said Chef Richmond. “Cognisant of this, the Centre had no second thoughts about hosting the Youth Chef’s Table for the second year in a row.”

Participating teams applied the skills and knowledge acquired during their tutorials to the preparation of one course, one canapé and one cocktail or mocktail. “This year, we have upgraded the standard of requirement on skills, food quality and presentation. We want to bring out the best in the participants as encouragement to excel in their chosen career”, added Chef Richmond.

Thanking the Centre and sponsors for their contributions; in cash and in kind, Chef Chern Chee Hoong, President, Chef’s Association of Malaysia (CAM) said their continuing support was crucial to not just the success of the CAM’s Youth Chef’s Table programme but the development of future generations of chefs.

The participating schools for the 2nd Youth Chef’s Table were BERJAYA University College of Hospitality, Cilantro Culinary Academy, INTI Laureate International Universities, KDU University College, Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University College, Legend International College of Hospitality and Tourism, Sunway University and Taylor’s University.
