Reopening RijksmuseumOn Saturday April 13th the official reopening of the Rijksmuseum took place. It was a true spectacle with the Dutch queen as the guest of honour and many spectacular events such as a long orange catwalk which guided guests to the spectacular new entrance. The orange catwalk was accessible for free until midnight.

The Rijksmuseum tried to offer as many visitors as possible a tour through the renovated museum and its top of the bill art. To promote the new start, the Rijksmuseum organized a lot of festive activities, such as the spectacular mass choreography by Penny Jones, the famous South African choreographer who also created choreographies for the Olympics and the Africa Cup.

The idea behind the performance, which was called ‘Carried on Hands’, was by Job Koelewijn. The choreography of seven minutes was performed twice during the day.

In total the renovation costs were over 350 million euro’s. These costs were partially sponsored by Founder Philips, ING and the BankGiro Loterij. With the new logo, over 8.000 pieces of art and a total renovated building the Rijksmuseum is definitely  a jewel.
