Laura Trott to start World Record attempt at Prudential RideLondon FreeCycleOn Saturday 3 August, double Olympic champion, Laura Trott, will join thousands of riders at the start of the Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle as they attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest single parade of bikes.

FreeCycle is part of the Mayor of London’s two-day world-class cycling festival, Prudential RideLondon, which takes place over the weekend of 3 and 4 August.

The Team GB gold medallist and reigning world champion has been named as the official starter for the world record breaking attempt. Over 2,800 cyclists have registered to take part in a bid to break the current world record of 916 bikes, which was set in Davis, California (USA) in 2010.

The British rider, a record breaker herself, will sound the klaxon to get proceedings underway and in doing so mark the beginning of a weekend of cycling festivities across London and Surrey.

Speaking at an exclusive cycling class earlier today at Virgin Active’s 200 Aldersgate Health Club organised by sponsor Prudential, Laura Trott said: “I’m honoured to be asked to be the official starter and it’s great to see so many people registered to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I know how amazing it feels to break a world record on your bike so I’ll be cheering everyone on from the sidelines. I’m really excited to play a small part and I’ll be wishing everyone the best of luck on the day – I hope they do it!”

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “Prudential RideLondon is going to be a marvel on wheels, and who better to kick off proceedings than Olympic cycling legend Laura Trott! This weekend of pedalling prowess adds another string to our capital’s cycling bow and builds on my commitment to make London a truly cyclised city.”

In addition to her starter duties, Trott will be competing later that day in the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix, which is one of four cycling events taking place over the weekend.

More than 50,000 riders are expected to take to the capital’s streets for the Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle and title sponsor, Prudential, is offering participants a free souvenir photograph to thank them for taking part in the event.

A team of photographers will be positioned at five different locations along the eight-mile route to capture riders at iconic London landmarks including St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London and the Houses of Parliament.

Head of Brand at Prudential UK, Chris Wallard, said: “Prudential RideLondon is set to be the biggest celebration of cycling the country has ever seen. For many it will be an unforgettable experience, which is why we’re offering souvenir photos for everyone registered for the FreeCycle to say thanks for taking part.”

Each participant will be identified using the bike number plate they received in their registration packs and photographs will be made available to download after the event atwww.PrudentialRideLondon.co.uk.

Registration is still open for the event at www.PrudentialRideLondon.co.uk/FreeCycle and  the number plates will be available to download online so participants can still get a free souvenir photograph.
