The Chamber of Commerce’s World Chambers Federation Congress in 2017 could join the impressive list of business events destined to take place in the new International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) after Team Sydney formally presented its bid in Tokyo at the weekend.

BESydney CEO Lyn Lewis-Smith joined bid leaders NSW Business Chamber CEO Stephen Cartwright, and Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Patricia Forsythe for the presentation to the Executive Council.

Ms Lewis-Smith said the presentation was the culmination of more than two year’s work and was delighted to be part of such a strong and united Sydney team.

“We are up against some strong competition from China, India and the Philippines, but I am confident we have done everything we can to impress the Executive Council. This win will be such a coup for Sydney and Australia should we be successful,” said Ms Lewis-Smith.

“As Australia’s business capital, Sydney is the ideal location for the world’s business and Chamber representatives to meet, share and learn.

“We would love to see the event take place in ICC Sydney. We’ve already secured 17 events for the new facility and we hope to add this event to the list very soon.”

NSW Business Chamber CEO Stephen Cartwright said that the organisation had ‘left no stone unturned’ in its bid.

“There is a great deal of interest in Australia and Sydney more specifically from the international business community and that certainly came out during our presentation. I know there is nothing more we could have done to bring the World Chambers Congress to Sydney,” said Mr Cartwright.

The Executive Council will announce the host destination for the 2017 International Chamber of Commerce’s World Chambers Federation Congress in November.
