Luxury tour operator Tauck is launching a unique five-day spectacular event in Chicago, with famed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns (America’s David Attenborough), to explore three all-American phenomena – the prohibition era, jazz, and the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright.

The launch coincides with Ken Burns’ award-winning documentary series Prohibition being re-shown on national television in the USA this month and the film’s theme will be a major part of Tauck’s five-day tour in September 2016. During the trip, Tauck guests will hear Ken Burns share his thoughts and insights and have the chance to chat with him during a private reception at the iconic Chicago Theatre.

The one-off, 200-capacity event includes a presentation on prohibition and Al Capone by New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Eig. Guests will also learn how to make classic prohibition-era drinks, as well as being able to raise a glass or two at a prohibition repeal celebration, with dinner and music from the era, at the lavish InterContinental Chicago Grand Ballroom.

A themed half-day sightseeing excursion, Beer Wars: The Roaring Twenties, will visit locations across Chicago to tell the story of prohibition, and the world of organised crime and gangsters it helped spawn.  Guests will travel to the city’s West Side to explore Pilsen, a Czech neighbourhood that helped popularise beer in America.  In the North Side, they’ll visit Clark Street, site of the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, and travel to the Biograph Theatre, associated with the death of John Dillinger, before visiting one of Chicago’s prohibition-era speakeasies.

Other highlights include a trip to Oak Park village to experience the architectural legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright during visits to his home and studio. Local experts will also help guests discover the diverse influences that have shaped Chicago’s historical and cultural life, including visits to Jazz-age sites and a private cruise along the Chicago River.

Tauck Chicago Event: September 19-23 2016, from £2,990 for five days, plus air fare. To find out more visit: http://tauck.co.uk/tours/usa-tours/southern-usa-travel/chicago-tour-kp-2016.aspx
