Vancouver’s M&C Big Bid Win: International Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in 2025

With the help of Dr. George Athwal, an orthopedic surgeon practicing in London Ontario, and his colleagues and teammates Dr. Anthony Romeo, Dr. Frank Cordasco and Dr. William Levine, Vancouver secured the bid to host the International Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (ICSES) in 2025 at the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre.

According to Dr. Athwal, it was stiff competition, and on September 18, 2019, the team presented a successful bid in Buenos Aires, Argentina to an audience of voting members.

Initially created to provide leadership, foster advances, and enhance the study of shoulder and elbow surgery through research and educational programs, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) held their very first meeting in 1982.

The ICSES takes place every three years with a purpose to allow individuals involved in this field of medicine to collaborate, meet, discuss new ideas, and present scientific material. This is a momentous win for the city as the Congress is set to bring 2,000 delegates from around the world to Vancouver in 2025. Tourism Vancouver and the Vancouver Convention Centre are proud to have worked with Dr. Athwal and his colleagues on this important bid; they collaborated with other hospitality partners to create a video to highlight why Vancouver was the right destination to host their next meeting.
